Rough Ideas

We analyzed and researched various sustainable ideas that could help people.

Idea Flow

Create a flow for classified ideas and draft user storyboards.

Finalize Ideas

We sketch and shape the flow of ideas and make persona map.

Empathy Interviews

We also conducted a several empathy interviews with elderly people who live in the world. The interviews were conducted online and in person.

My children and grandchildren live far away, so I'm bored with my daily life.

It's hard to take a walk because of my poor health. I usually just sit and lie down.

I miss my young days
when I was healthy.

User Journey
Using journey maps, we analyzed the problem main user may encounter in their daily lives and to find opportunities to improve each situation.

JTBD

Using the Jobs To Be Done method, we summarized the main elderly problems for them.

Paige Harrison

When I stay in home, I want to socialize and make friends in my age with disabilities so I can share feelings and experiences.

John Cohen

I want to be able to move freely like when I was yound so i can commute efficiently without any hassles.

Myungja Lee

It's hard to plan activities for me, I want to find events that are accessible and elder-friendly so I can make sure I can have the possible experience.

03
Ideate

MVP
Based on the JTBD definitions, we speculated a minimum viable product for main user.

04
Prototypes

Using low and high fidelity prototypes, we confirmed and improved app usability.

05
Deliver

We built a design system based on the daily life of John Cohen, the main target.

The VR Bed
With measurements and preliminary reference, modelling can begin on a high-level; replicating the sketch and adding new forms to help make the product look more visually appealing.

Features
Through our empathy interview, we explored John's daily life that would be convenient using VR beds, headphones, and glass to relieve his discomfort.

Reflections

1. User testing during the prototype stage proved to be quite useful, thus keeping the user involved in the process and not designing something out of the way.

2. Learned to use different synthesis frameworks apart from mapping the customer journey.

3. A lot of back-and-forths were involved especially in the prototyping stage. It was quite a challenge for the team members to implement the design changes and prioritize which changes to make for the next versions after the user testing results.

4. Focusing on the scope for the MVP of the app took a lot of time, which was the primary result of the research stage.

5. Team coordination and dividing the work responsibilities helped to complete the project within the timeline.

6. Our original plan was to scan the package of the snacks to digitalize, but these could not make it into the MVP plan after feedback from users. It was rather crucial to focus on the convenience and technical development of our app.

Reflections

My team designed a new product based on our research and empathy interviews.
We also learned the importance of getting constant feedback from potential users and learning their core needs.
